Change is in the air
Regarding Senator Ted Kennedy's endorsement of Barack Obama:
“There was another time, when another young candidate was running for president and challenging America to cross a new frontier,” Mr. Kennedy said. “He faced criticism from the preceding Democratic president, who was widely respected in the party,” a reference to Harry S. Truman. “And John Kennedy replied: ‘The world is changing. The old ways will not do. It is time for a new generation of leadership.’ ”
“So it is,” he added, “with Barack Obama.”

Volunteering for Obama in California
After a seven hour delay in Minneapolis, I arrived in San Francisco to assist with foreign policy events supporting the Obama campaign. Before rolling up my sleeves to help organize the fundraisers I spent part of the weekend snowboarding in Tahoe and checked out the local political scene, which appears to be Ron Paul country. Most of the people I spoke with thus far are sympathetic toward Obama or leaning McCain. Volunteering in the Bay Area is quite different from my recent experience in New Hampshire or what I'm told was the focus in South Carolina. Here we are working hard to raise money instead of turning out poor voters and I'm spending more time on the phone and email inviting people to $250 head dinners.
It's hard to tell what will happen in California. Everyone is suspicious of polls since they've proven to be wilding off the mark in New Hampshire and South Carolina. I'm talking about the recent CNN and Los Angeles Times polls which has Obama trailing Hillary Clinton 49% to 32%. However it's important to remember that they took this poll before Ted Kennedy's endorsement and before the South Carolina primary. And the numbers were based only on voters affiliated with the party although California holds as an open primary where independents are permitted to cast ballots. And we know that independents like Obama.
